FAQ > ROC DASH
|
| Freaquently asked questions about
our ROC DASH |
 |
| Q. What is different about the ROC-DASH
compared to other on-kart systems? |
| It is the only dash for karting
to display Race Position to every driver with a dash.
|
 |
| Q. Is the dash available for immediate
purchase and use by the competitor? |
| The ROC-DASH is available for purchase
by circuits and competitors that already have the ROC
Timing System. Circuits wishing to use the ROC-DASH system
that do not run the ROC system can upgrade or use the
system in parallel with their existing system. |
 |
| Q. How accurate is the information
displayed on the ROC-DASH? |
| Very accurate! Unlike other systems
where every display has it's own internal clock, with
the ROC-DASH the driver sees the same information that
is on the circuits timing system - so it's accuracy is
linked to the central transponder timing decoder. This
ensures that each ROC-DASH is as accurate as the next!
|
 |
| Q. We have a scoreboard, but the
drivers cannot see the information as they pass by. Do
you have any alternatives? |
| Yes, we have just launched the new
ROC-DASH especially for this purpose. It is a dashboard
mounted display that shows the driver's information that
is normally available on a scoreboard. Drivers can look
down at the display when it suits them. Fitting the ROC-DASH
to each kart may also be less expensive than a scoreboard.
|
 |
| Q. Are on-kart display systems safe?
|
| The ROC-DASH is far safer than the
driver trying to observe a scoreboard as they fly by the
start -finish line. When they look at a scoreboard or
trackside display, there is more information to view and
take in. But with the dash, it only requires the driver
to quickly glance at the through steering wheel, just
like driving a car. |
 |
| Q. What is the best way to mount
the ROC-DASH? |
| Behind the steering wheel on a purpose-built
bracket. This ensures no movement and the digits are clear
and easy to read. Correct positioning of the steering
wheel ensures the dash is only viewed on straights. It
is purposely obscured on bends where viewing could be
dangerous. There are no buttons to press so as not to
distract the driver. The dash can also be mounted on the
steering wheel if preferred. |
 |
| Q. If there are no buttons, how
does the dash display the different information? |
| The dash is loaded with information
relating to the driver as they cross the start finish
line. Preset delays change the display mode as the driver
continues around the circuit. The driver knows on which
part of the circuit to look for the required information.
These presets are programmable, for instance: Race Position
is displayed continuously throughout the lap Last laptime
displayed after start finish line Display shows Gap Time
to next driver on Turn 4 Dash shows Elapsed Time on back
straight Dash shows Laps Completed on last bend |
 |
| Q. What is so good about the ROC-DASH
? |
| The ROC-DASH gives precise information
on how you are driving. It allows you to chart your progress
as you drive, rather than relying on a printout at the
end of the race. This gives the drivers far more satisfaction
during their session, and allows them to adjust their
racing line to optimize their laptimes. Tracks with a
ROC-DASH system will attract extra visitors because of
the added enjoyment it gives to the drivers. |
 |
| Q. How does the dash help during
endurance races? |
| The ROC-DASH does not just show
laptimes like other on-kart displays, tt also shows race
position, which is essential to endurance racing. Knowing
the Gap Time also lets you know if you are gaining or
loosing ground to the driver in front. |
 |
| Q. How is the Gap Time shown? |
| If you are on the same lap as the
driver in front, then the display indicates how many seconds
you are behind the driver. If they are one or more laps
ahead, then it displays the number of laps difference.
|
 |
| Q. As well as the ROC-DASH, I need
a timing transponder, and a shutdown transponder to be
fitted to my kart. Is this possible? |
| Yes. The AMB130 timing transponder
has its own internal power source. The ROC-DASH and ROC-Shutdown
Transponder are both powered from the engine and can both
operate from a single GX-160 engine. The Dash can also
be used with the AMB-120 transponder that also connects
to the Honda engine. |
 |
| Q. I am using the ROC system with
AMB20 transponders. Is the dash compatible with this?
|
| Yes. The Dash obtains its information
from our software and is independent of the transponder
system that is in use. |
 |
| Q. How many karts can use the ROC-DASH
in the same race? |
| Limited only by the number of timing
transponders your system has. Each ROC-DASH has it's own
unique identity number. |
 |
| Q. Can I use the ROC-DASH at other
circuits? |
| If they are running the ROC system,
you can use the dash there. |
 |
| Q. Will the ROC-DASH work for races
other than endurance? |
| Of course! During arrive and drive
and practice sessions, the dash lets drivers know their
last laptime, the number of laps completed and keeps them
informed regarding how long there is left to go in their
session. Best Laptime Ranking is displayed continuously
throughout the lap Last laptime displayed after start
finish line Dash shows Elapsed Time of drivers session
on back straight Dash shows Laps Completed on last bend
|
 |
| Q. How is the ROC-DASH powered?
|
| Direct from the Honda engine. The
ROC-DASH connects to the kill-switch and to the chassis.
Alternatively, you can power the ROC-DASH from a 9-12V
DC battery, e.g. PP3. The dash can also be powered direct
from a car's 12V supply, when used for car racing. |
 |
| Q. Can I hire-out a ROC-DASH to
drivers who have their own kart? |
| Yes! This is an good source of revenue
for a track owner. After one or two sessions of hiring
a ROC-DASH, they will wish to purchase one themselves,
which will encourage them to return to your circuit. They
are essential to owner-drivers who are preparing for races.
|
 |
| Q. Can the dash tell them how they
rate against other drivers? |
| During open practice and qualification,
the ROC-DASH will tell the driver how they rank in terms
of their best laptime on the circuit. For example, the
display will read: 1:23.32 seconds. The position window
will indicate that you are 3rd fastest in this session.
|
 |
| Q. Can the dash tell them how they
rate against other drivers? |
| Yes. When you complete your best
laptime, the laptime will flash indicating to the driver
it was their best laptime so far. |
 |
| Q. Is the ROC-DASH resistant to
water and moisture? |
| Yes, the ROC-DASH has been tested
to IP65 standards. Provided the dash is not opened and
is carefully looked after, the dash will continue to resist
hard conditions. The dash is also resistant to vibration
and there are also no moving parts to wear out! |
 |
| Q. How does the ROC-DASH receive
it's information, and how reliable is it? |
| Information is sent to the ROC-DASH
using digital telemetry signals from race control, encoded
to provide accurate information to the driver. Like all
electronic equipment, the dash can be prone to interference
from outside sources. Solid design and thorough testing
ensure it remains reliable even in the harshest of conditions.
|
 |
| Q. Can the front panel of the ROC-DASH
be customized? |
| Yes. Please ask at the time ordering.
